Inspired by the art book of Roller Grrrls I picked up at Thought Bubble (Gary Erskine, you rock!) I decided to sketch Lizard as a Roller Derby girl on the way home today.

I figure her derby name would be Freckle Fists :)

When i was a kid I doodled and stuff, but when I hit 11/12 the Pokemon craze started up and I got really into it. used to spent hours copying the pictures of the different characters and stuff, so that was probably what started it. Then stopped for a few years until I took Higher art as a crash course in my final year at school and I realized I liked it better than pretty much anything else :)

Not sure what my favorite piece of work is to be honest. I feel like I get a little better every time, so probably the answer is “Whatever my last project was” lol. I’m currently drawing the cover for the next Issue of Team Girl Comic and quite pleased with how it’s coming along :)

Early release (mix not final) of a song from Lemon Demon’s upcoming album. The video was created to be projected during live shows. The clips used are from 1964’s The Killers, Ronald Reagan’s last acting gig before getting into politics. Several Ronald Reagans were created for this film.

So excited about a new Lemon Demon album! :D

A sketch-turned-photoshop drawing of my characters in an upcoming RPG campaign.

Well, technically only the guy on the bottom right is my character. He’s an ex-superhero who’s now involved in detective work, and goes by the alias Sherlock. His girlfriend and partner in crimefighting (who goes by the alias Holmes) is more of an NPC.

I originally intended it just to be a practice sketch, then just a simple black and white linework piece, but when I got it into photoshop I started tinkering and then ended up with this.

Here’s the front cover for issue 4, designed by the very talented and lovely (and maybe just a little crazy) Evy Craig. It’s the last week in September and the new comic is on schedule to come out very soon. If you remember, issue 2 came out October last year so we’re keeping to our 6 month plan pretty successfully! Issue 4 is going to feature even more new artists, including MJ Wallace and 11 year old Jasmine McPhee, and judging by the number of hand-ins so far it may be our biggest issue yet.

So yeah, went to see the stageshow at the SECC for my brother’s birthday tonight.

In Short: See picture on right

In long: I could appreciate what they were trying to do, and there were aspects of the production that I *really* liked (Particularly little touches eg. the waiters on rollerskates at the Iceberg Lounge, and the Joker’s props and set-pieces).

Plus, I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen Robin done well outside of the comics and animated series, so as a Robin fan that made me pretty happy.

Harley was great (despite the new costume, which I can’t say I’m a fan of). She was pretty much exactly like Harley should be, down to the outrageous accent and the bazooka. Penguin likewise was pretty perfect for me (for the whole two minutes he got in it).

On the down side… the guy who played batman was probably the worst actor out of the lot - really wooden, really hammy, and less intimidating than any of the several hundred kids who were there (most of whom were also dressed as batman). I can appreciate it’s a tough role to get right, but every time he read out a line and I imagined how Kevin Conroy would have delivered it instead, I died a little inside.

Some of the fight scenes are particularly weak as well, especially one at the start which has some incredibly unimpressive and clumsy use of wires (the characters are flying in slow motion around, limbs flailing ineffectually - remembering it is actually making me cringe a bit), but these do get better as the go on. There are a few cock-punches in the later fight scenes, which kind of redeem the whole thing for me. (I should probably be embarrassed that simple brutality so easily appeases me, but I’m not. You can’t beat a good cock-punch for sheer visceral fun).

But the absolute worst thing about the show?

The jerks who sat behind us and spent the whole show yelling, giving a running commentary, and generally acting like it was a pantomime. Never has multiple homicide seemed so appealing.

SUMMARY: So yeah. It was alright. Which, coming from me with my unfairly high standard which I hold all Batman adaptions to, probably means it’s pretty good… I guess. It’s probably also about 40% more enjoyable if you’re lucky enough to be sitting with reasonable human beings, rather than a bunch of yammering zoo animals.

And now I’m off to read some comics!
